MedSupport

The AWARDS MedSupport feature (provided by CaraSolva) is an add-on service that allows agencies to organize and automate repeatable medical functions, such as medication administration, vital sign readings, and designated tasks.  When subscribed to, this feature is accessible from the Medical fly-out menu for users with permission, allowing for single sign-on access. For more information on this powerful add-on tool, please refer to the resources provided below.

Required Permissions

Because the MedSupport feature is an optional add-on service available by subscription, it is not automatically available in all databases, nor is it automatically available for all users when an agency subscribes to it.  In subscribing agencies, access must be assigned to individual users and requires the following permissions:

Program Chart Access
Display Any Chart Records Buttons
Display Chart Records Medical Button
MedSupport Data Entry

NOTE: Permissions are assigned using the Permissions Maintenance feature.  If you do not have access to that feature and need a permission listed here, please contact your supervisor or your local Help Desk for assistance.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I work with a pending client in MedSupport?

No. An admission date is required for a client to appear in MedSupport, so pending clients are not included.

Does MedSupport allow for the tracking of ad-hoc events such as bowel movements and seizure activity?

Yes. Within the MedSupport Plus package, users will have the ability to track ad-hoc events along with other enhanced functionality.

If my database is set up to send electronic prescriptions and to use MedSupport, how can I ensure that medications are not being duplicated from both systems?

We have the ability to disable the medication record syncing at the time of prescription and only sync when medication is returned from the pharmacy. This feature is not turned on by default. If you would like to enable this feature please reach out to your AWARDS administrator.

My client's medication seems out of sync - is there a way to resync medication information?

In the rare instance that medication records did not sync back into AWARDS as expected, users can initiate a resync by clicking the sync icon on the action bar.

What do I need to do if a client already has active medications in AWARDS and will use MedSupport's pharmacy interface?

If a client has an active list of medications in AWARDS, you will have to record an end date for those medications as you accept the new medications from MedSupport.  The sync does not automatically record an end date on medications that were manually entered in AWARDS.

What information syncs between AWARDS and MedSupport?

For detailed information on syncing between AWARDS and MedSupport, please see the table found on the last page of the MedSupport in AWARDS - Quick Start Guide

What role are users initially given in MedSupport?

All users will initially inherit the role as "Caregiver" (or DSP) in MedSupport, and permissions/access assigned to that role. A user's role can be updated at the individual level within MedSupport, but a user can only be assigned one role at a time.

Why can't I edit records from MedSupport in AWARDS?

At this time, any medication, vital sign or task record created in MedSupport appears as read-only in AWARDS. These records cannot be edited or deleted in AWARDS.

Why is my program not displaying as a MedSupport Location when I set it as one in AWARDS?

All programs must have a valid address (Street, City, State, Zip). Note that the City, State and Zip combination are verified externally and must be complete and correct.
